Fundraising
Fundraising activities occur throughout
the year and range from the ridiculous to the almost-sublime.
The base of our funding is provided by memberships.
In addition to annual memberships, donations come in year-around
from collection points in business establishments throughout
town. PHA volunteers also staff booths at local celebrations
and activities, which provide pet information and an opportunity
for donations.
PHA is honored to accept memorial contributions
for well-loved pets who have gone "over the rainbow bridge."
These pets are further remembered with their pictures on our
memorial page.
Our annual rummage sale turns one person's
attic overflow into another person's treasures, with the proceeds
going to animal welfare.
The
4th of July dog wash was a resounding success, with promises
of even more dogs for this year's event.
The Doggone Good Time Dog Show gave dog
owners a place to show off their pets and dog lovers a place
to admire all the doggy talent in town as it raised money for
the PHA.
A raffle, sale of kits to make clay plaques
of pet's paw prints, some kids who sold coffee and donated their
proceeds to us, and a Petersburg Run-Walk Club-sponsored "Doggie
Dash" also contributed to our ability to help Petersburg's
animals.
Our
annual meeting combined business with zaniness, art contests,
and fund raising. A pet photo contest was judged on the good
old payola system - $1 per vote, with the winner announced at
the annual meeting and proceeds going to PHA. Entries in a children's
art contest were displayed and judged at the annual meeting,
too. And the zaniness was provided by a hot dog art contest,
with entrants creating "art" from hot dogs, toothpicks,
and other good stuff plus any accessories they chose to provide.
Losers were NOT required to eat their masterpieces (nor were
the winners)!
