Petersburg Humane Association

Pound Care Volunteer

ARE YOU A DOG PERSON?
Are you willing to give some of your time to better the lot of impounded dogs? Then you are just what we are looking for. While the City of Petersburg has animal control responsibility, the PHA takes care of the City pound. This includes caring for impounded dogs and keeping the shelter clean. You will be committing to a few hours a month, at specific times of the day, when there are dogs in the shelter. They need feeding at regular hours and the shelter needs cleaning daily while dogs are impounded. The City provides all necessary food and equipment. If you choose to play with and/or exercise the dogs while you're there, so much the better.

Duties:
Feed and water impounded dogs once or twice a day, depending on the age of the dog(s)
Clean the food and water dishes
Clean the kennels and pound area
Clean the run area as necessary
Assure that dogs have a warm, dry place within their kennel
Change blankets or towels as needed, laundering or making arrangements to launder the dirty ones

Qualifications:
Genuine concern for the welfare of the animals that is consistent with the philosophy of the Petersburg Humane Association.
Experience handling dogs.
Physical ability and willingness to handle large dogs.
Ability to work independently.
